The morning after

A hangover wants three things: salt, water and a reason to leave the apartment. The list below goes in that order. Breakfast at a counter where nobody talks to you, a slow walk, a swim if you can face it, then a dark cold room with a movie in it. Nothing here needs a reservation, and nothing starts before ten.

Breakfast at a diner counter

Eggs, coffee that gets refilled without asking, a newspaper somebody left. Nobody is judging the hour you got up.

Any morning before 10 am; weekdays are quieter
Cheaper
The counter rarely has a wait, and the two-egg special is always the cheapest plate.
Skip it if
You want avocado toast. This is hash browns.
